The Environmental Commendation for the Passat

The Environmental Commendation for the Passat

In over 37 years of production, the Passat has developed into one of Volkswagen's most successful models. During this time, we have kept adapting it to market challenges and customer demands with decisive technical advances from one model generation to the next. The improvements over the course of development have not only enhanced the driving qualities, comfort and specification of the popular mid-size model, its environmental properties have gained too. We have produced an Environmental Commendation datasheet to provide you with a concise summary of the lifecycle assessment results.

Parking in tight parking spaces is made considerably easier with the “Park Assist” parking assistant. The latest generation detects parallel and perpendicular parking spaces and automatically steers in several moves into small parallel parking spaces (vehicle length + 80 cm) – and out again. You operate only the accelerator and brake pedals.

The principle of reducing pollution

The Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel** combines the typical Passat Estate features of quality and dynamism with an efficient bivalent engine: a natural gas engine, combined with twincharger technology (turbocharger and compressor). This makes it the top eco-friendly model in its class. And all that with a remarkable range, substantially lower operating costs than a vehicle with a conventional petrol engine and considerably reduced CO2 and carbon monoxide emissions compared with the spark-ignition version.

The principle of cutting fuel consumption

BlueMotion Technology means: reducing fuel consumption wherever possible. The freewheel function is a highly efficient example of this. It can be selected for the 90 kW TSI BlueMotion Technology** and the 103 kW TDI BlueMotion Technology** in combination with a DSG dual-clutch gearbox. Its purpose is to make better use of the vehicle’s kinetic energy. When you take your foot off the accelerator, the engine is automatically disengaged and held at idling speed. This allows the vehicle to coast for a longer distance without using any fuel. When the brake is applied the engine is engaged once again and benefits from overrun fuel cutoff through interruption of the fuel supply.
